Product Overview

BRONZE MEDALLION

 commence training for the Bronze Medallion you must:

  • Be at least 15 years of age on the final assessment date.
  • Complete an unaided swim of 400 m in 9 minutes or less (goggles and masks permitted) in a swimming pool of not less than 25 m, or over a measured open water course which will be observed prior to you undertaking any water training or assessment activities. Evidence of this must be provided to the assessor prior to commencement of the assessment for this qualification/SLSA award.

You will also need an everyday standard of language, literacy and numeracy skills to be able to:

  • Follow written, verbal and visual instructions.
  • Read and interpret a range of signs and symbols.
  • Read and interpret written information.
  • Make basic mathematical calculations to carry out everyday activities.
  • Keep accurate written records.

SURF RESCUE CERTIFICATE (SRC)

To commence training for the Surf Rescue Certificate you must:

  • Be at least 13 years of age on the final assessment date.
  • Complete an unaided swim of 200 m in 5 minutes or less (goggles and masks permitted) in a swimming pool of not less than 25 m, or over a measured open water course which will be observed prior to you undertaking any water training or assessment activities. Evidence of this must be provided to the assessor prior to commencement of the assessment for these units of competency/this SLSA award.

You will also need an everyday standard of language, literacy and numeracy skills to be able to:

  • Follow written, verbal and visual instructions.
  • Read and interpret a range of signs and symbols.
  • Read and interpret written information.
  • Make basic mathematical calculations to carry out everyday activities.
  • Keep accurate written records.

IRB CREW CERTIFICATE

Candidates must meet ALL of the following conditions:

  • be at least 15 years of age on the date of final assessment.
  •  be currently proficient in Bronze Medallion (and hold the Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)

SILVER MEDALLION IRB DRIVER’S COURSE

Candidates must meet ALL of the following conditions:

  • Candidates must have more than 10 hours crewing experience evidenced by log.
  • Candidates must be at least 16 years of age to commence training.
  • Candidates must be at least 17 years of age on the date of final assessment.
  • Candidates must hold and be currently proficient in:
    • Bronze Medallion and Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)
    • IRB Crewperson Certificate
  • Candidates must meet the local state Marine Licensing requirements.
  • Candidates must hold the following units of competency (normally attained on completion of the Bronze Medallion/Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue).

ADVANCED RESUSCITATION TECHNIQUES

SLSA AWARD ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To commence training for the Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate you must meet the following entry requirements:
• be at least 15 years of age on the date of final assessment
• be a financial member of a SLS club.

PRE-REQUISITES
Participants must hold the unit of competency HLTAID011 Provide first aid to enrol into this course.

SILVER MEDALLION BEACH MANAGEMENT

Candidates must meet ALL of the following conditions:

  • Have a minimum of 20 patrol hours logged on SurfGuard
  • Be at least 17 years of age on the date of final assessment
  • Hold the Bronze Medallion award and the Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)
  • Be proficient in ONE of the following:

–         Bronze Medallion

–         Radio Operator

–         Advanced Resuscitation Techniques

–         First Aid

–         Spinal Management

This course includes practical scenarios where candidates may be expected to use radios to communicate.  Candidates should ensure they have refreshed their knowledge of radio use and pro-words before attending the course.

COURSE COSTS

Membership – For all courses candidates must be current members of North Curl Curl SLSC. The link to join is on the members web site https://nccslsc.com.au/ under members.

Once joined the training costs are:

Nipper and SRC members             $ 50.00

Nipper parent members                  $150.00

New junior members                        $150.00

New senior members                      $250.00

Training costs include:

  • Nationally recognised first aid certificate valid for 3 years currently HLTAID011
  • Nationally recognised CPR certificate valid for 1 year currently HLTAID009
  • Water Safety Rash Vest
  • Training and administration costs including access to online courses.
  • Provision and maintenance of all training equipment
  • Uniform on completion of the course where applicable

 

For the SRC and Bronze medallion new members who fulfill their patrol and water safety commitments have their membership waived for the following year.
